Howard Terpning is one of Rush Cole's personal artist heroes."No doubt about it," asserts Cole, "Terpning gets it so right in his paintings of American Indians that it's stunning."
Native peoples of North America, their histories, cultures, arts, crafts, and lifestyles, past and present, have always fascinated Rush Cole. As an artist in her own right, she paints them all, from the Plains Indians, some of the finest western horsemen in North America, to the Pueblo Indians of the Southwest.
Once the inspiration for a painting comes to her, Cole researches extensively and then, if possible, visits reservations in order to authentically portray the appearance, dress and customs of indigenous Americans.
Only after Rush has developed a sense of connection to her subject does she proceed to create her powerful images of native America. Eight Northern Pueblo Pow Wows and Feast Day dances figure prominently in her paintings of northern New Mexico pueblo life as she strives to express the reverence toward nature inherent in the various sacred ceremonies.
A history buff, Cole has recently spent months studying the glory-days of the Plains tribes, including the Blackfoot, Sioux, Crow, Arapaho, Comanches, and Apaches. Her life-long love of horses makes portraying the horse nations doubly thrilling for the artist.
Following in the footsteps of legendary American artists, Frederick Remington and Charles Russell, Rush Cole has begun creating images of Plains Indians, authenticating, as much as possible, their clothing, lodges, weapons, horse gear, and ceremonial implements. Watch for her "New Work!",
